INTRODUCTION
 

     Sponsored   by   the  National   Natural   Science   Foundation  of   China,   the  Ministry  of   Education  of  

People's  Republic of  China the Chinese Society of  Theoretical and Applied Mechanics,  and Chinese Materials

Research Society,  we  will  organize  a  summer  workshop  on  the  topic  of   Multi-Field   Coupling Theory  and 

Smart  Materials  during  Aug 6 to 22,  2008  in  Key Laboratory of  Low Dimensional Materials  and  Application

Technology of  Ministry of EducationXiangtan University.  The  aim  of  the  summer workshop  is  to understand 

the recent  research development  in  the field of  Multi-Field Coupling  Theory  and  Smart  Materials,  inspire  the

research  interest   for   the  young  scientists  in  China  and   promote    the   academic   communication   between  

China  and  the  world.
